Faisalabad is a textile city, and that single fact changes the solar conversation more than anything about the equipment does. A spinning or processing plant running two or three shifts has a consumption pattern that no residential rule of thumb describes, and sizing it as though it were a large house is how money gets wasted at scale here.

The shift question decides everything

An array generates for roughly seven useful hours a day. A plant running one day shift overlaps almost all of it. A plant running three shifts overlaps perhaps a third of its own consumption with generation, and the rest of what it draws comes from the grid at night regardless of how many panels are on the roof.

That is not an argument against solar for a three-shift plant — it is an argument for sizing against the daytime portion rather than the total bill. Since February 2026 the units you export earn roughly a third of the old rate, so capacity beyond your daylight draw pays back far more slowly. Working out that daytime figure properly is what an energy audit and load profile study is for, and on a plant this size it is worth doing before anyone quotes a capacity.

Check the power factor penalty before you buy generation

Textile plants are motor-heavy, and motor-heavy plants frequently carry a power factor penalty on the bill that has nothing to do with how many units they consume. It is a charge for the quality of the load rather than its quantity, and solar does not remove it.

On more than one site the first honest recommendation has been capacitor correction rather than an array — a fraction of the cost, addressing a charge that generation would not have touched. I have no margin on equipment, so pointing that out costs me a project and nothing else, which is exactly why it is worth having the assessment done by someone with no equipment to sell.

Older industrial roofs are a real constraint

Much of the Faisalabad industrial belt is sheds rather than new construction, and purlin condition on a shed of unknown age cannot be assumed. An array adds dead load and, more consequentially, presents a surface to wind uplift.

This is the check that gets skipped, because performing it is inconvenient and because nothing bad happens on day one. Where a roof cannot carry the array I will say so, including when that means the project does not go ahead in its proposed form — occasionally that costs me the job, and it is precisely the reason the check is worth having from someone with no stake in the equipment.

Where the bigger prize sometimes is

Processing and finishing carry thermal loads, and on some plants those are served by fuel rather than electricity. Where that is true, the useful conversation is occasionally not about the array at all but about what the boiler is burning and what it costs per unit of useful heat.

That is outside what I sell, and I will still tell you when it is the larger number. A consultant whose recommendation is always the thing he happens to supply is not giving you a recommendation.
