How it was done

The engineering decisions

  1. The load profile that suits solar best

    Cold storage is the clearest case I deal with. Compressor duty rises with ambient temperature, so the load peaks on hot, bright afternoons — which is precisely when the array is producing most. The generation curve and the consumption curve have close to the same shape, which means very little is exported and very little is wasted. No battery was specified, because on this profile a battery would have been sold rather than justified.

  2. Equipment

    200 modules at 715W into a single Huawei SUN2000-115KTL. A single inverter is a deliberate trade at this size: it is the more efficient configuration, and at 143 kW the consequence of a fault is a service call rather than a shutdown of a megawatt of plant.

  3. A recurring client

    DG Khan Cold Storage has come back for further work. On a model where I am paid 4% once and take nothing on the hardware, repeat business is the only compounding asset there is — which is a large part of why the after-sales is included rather than sold.

What I was paid

The same terms as every project on this site

Equipment bought at wholesale and invoiced to the client in the supplier's own name. No margin taken on any of it. My fee is 4% of total project cost, invoiced once the system is commissioned and generating.

The client holds every original invoice. They can check what a panel or an inverter costs in the Lahore market, and I expect them to — the model only works if the paperwork survives that.
