How it was done

The engineering decisions

  1. Why a flour mill is close to the ideal solar load

    A mill grinds during the day. That single fact does more for the economics than any equipment choice: the generating window and the consumption window are the same window, so almost every unit produced is consumed on site at full industrial tariff rather than exported at the buyback rate. When I am asked which businesses solar actually suits in Pakistan, mills, ice plants and cold stores are the honest answer, and this is why.

  2. Sizing against the load, not the roof

    The array was sized against measured daytime consumption rather than against available roof area. Four SOLIS 125 kW inverters cover the 500 kW, which keeps any single inverter fault down to a quarter of plant output. Commissioned December 2024.

  3. What I was paid

    Wholesale procurement, original supplier invoices handed to the client, no margin taken on equipment, and 4% of total project cost invoiced once the system was commissioned and generating. The same terms as every project on this site.

Equipment bought at wholesale and invoiced to the client in the supplier's own name. No margin taken on any of it. My fee is 4% of total project cost, invoiced once the system is commissioned and generating.

The client holds every original invoice. They can check what a panel or an inverter costs in the Lahore market, and I expect them to — the model only works if the paperwork survives that.
